Labyrinth Walks & Ceremonies

Walk inward, find center, journey outward transformed.

Service Description

THE HISTORY OF LABYRINTHS The earliest form on record dates back to 1300 BCE. Even though early civilizations were isolated from one another, only one archetypal design of the labyrinth emerged over thousands of years. During medieval times when a trip to Jerusalem was very dangerous and costly, labyrinths were built in seven European Christian cathedrals as alternative pilgrimages. After lying dormant for centuries, labyrinths are undergoing a revival of use and interest today. Throughout the United States, there are labyrinths in hospitals, churches, prisons, schools, parks, private homes, and retreat centers. THE PARTS OF THE LABYRINTH WALK The labyrinth walk itself is composed of three parts: the walk inward, arrival at the center, and the journey outward. Upon entering the labyrinth, it is helpful to identify your intention, knowing that your focus upon the path will reduce distractions and help center your mind and heart on that thought. Some view the walk inward as a time of release – focusing on letting go of old habits, worn-out thoughts, or crippling resentments. Others see it as a time to seek guidance and answers regarding lingering questions and doubts or new dilemmas. It can be a walk of gratitude for the blessings in your life, or a time to lift up prayers for those in need personally or globally. Still others use this as a time of meditation to chant a mantra, scripture, poem, or prayer. You may use this walk to seek healing for yourself or a loved one. Or it may simply be a time of stillness to connect with Spirit, Mother Earth, and her beings. Whatever your intention or need, this is the time to open your heart and connect with Spirit. The center is often viewed as the stillpoint, the thinning of the veil between worlds, and union with the Great Mystery. Fully release your intention to Spirit and to listen and feel deeply. When you’re ready, begin your journey outward and your return to the world, taking with you what you experienced on your walk. As you leave, express gratitude, knowing that your intention was heard. This is the time now to begin to align and integrate the experience you gained from the walk into your life. Do not expect your walk to be like anyone else’s. Each walk is a personal experience. The labyrinth is always here for you. Return again and again. To schedule a labyrinth walk or to be added to the email list for upcoming walks, contact Kathleen at AncientCallingSacredPath@gmail.com.
