Kathleen
Kathleen Whitmire’s work with ancient spiritual practices began in the early 2000’s with a labyrinth walk at San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral, a profoundly moving experience that awakened her to the non-physical world. Her spiritual growth continued with connections to a series of teachers, exposure to indigenous practices and ways, a close relationship with Mother Earth, and transformative experiences and visions. It was during this time that she was trained in leading labyrinth walks and in accessing the Akashic Records.
An internationally recognized speech-language pathologist with a PhD in Education, Kathleen retired from full-time employment in 2012. Since then, she has devoted her time and energy to spiritual growth and practices. She serves others primarily through her practices of Readings from the Akashic Records and ceremonies and walks on labyrinths. She follows the Way of her totem, the Raven, who brings messages from the Void. She is also a Faith Keeper, fiercely holding the vision of the future for others through times of change and chaos. Her studies have had a particular focus on the Divine Feminine.
In 2020, Kathleen and her husband purchased a second home in the ancient Appalachian Mountains of western North Carolina. They were blessed by being led to a home on sacred land lying on two ley lines, pulsing with powerful energy and filled with crystals, ancient ones, and ancestors. The land now holds a labyrinth, a medicine wheel, and an ascension path for personal and group rituals and ceremonies. In addition, several trees have been identified that hold special gifts of enlightenment and healing. And of course there are the various beings that carry messages for those who listen.
Kathleen is currently studying at the Center for Sacred Studies in California. In addition, Source continues to send teachers, visions and experiences to help her on her spiritual journey. She and her husband have their primary residence in the Piedmont area of North Carolina.

To feel that special energy flowing through me as my hand moves with brush across a surface is the deepest feeling I know, whether it is painting a canvas, sketching a landscape or painting the side of a building. When I am finished working for the day I am left with an exquisite sense of peace and fulfillment.
The theme of my work is to bring forth that which is mysterious, evocative, and lasting. As I paint I push myself to venture into unknown areas — that open my mind to new ways of seeing. Natural surroundings are close to my heart, and I love sketching and photographing flora, fauna, and landscape; these images often come into my mind as I paint in my studio. And sometimes I will combine my nature photography with images from my paintings, and a new art form emerges— Art Fusions!
Occasionally when I am at a spot in nature something profoundly moves me. It could have been the sound of water dripping from a cavern ceiling, or a glint of sunlight in the shadows cast by trees in the woods. That moment will germinate in me until I start depicting it on canvas. Then as the painting slowly evolves, layers are applied and the surface becomes a place where nuances occur and I become the translator of dreams. As a result, each painting teaches, touches, and inspires me. It is my hope that when gazing at my work you will feel some of my mystical experiences and inspiration.

I need to begin with a disclaimer. My professional career was as a statistician, so I came to the idea of spiritual practices with scepticism. Early in my life I identified as a religious person, and only in my 50’s did I recognize that I was more spiritual than religious. My first spiritual experience was walking the labyrinth at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. It so moved me that I encouraged others, and continue to encourage others, to go there. While living in Maryland, I walked a labyrinth fairly regularly and worked with my wife, Kathleen Whitmire, on getting her church to install a labyrinth.
As Kathleen noted, we had a condo in western Montana, and there I became aware of indigenous practices. My totem is the Bear and I do fit that well. I realized there was much wisdom in the indigenous practices, particularly their honoring of the land, the spirits, and the moon cycles. I recognized the power of the full moon, developed practices for acknowledging this, and wrote a prayer for celebrating the full moon. I continue these practices in Greensboro as well as on the sacred land we have in Little Switzerland, NC.
My spiritual practices grew to include meditation, daily prayer, sound baths, angel numbers, and 432 hz music. Over time that expanded to journaling (see the section of the website on Musings and Insights from Herb), having Oracle Card Readings done for me, having a number of Readings of the Akashic Records, and being more open to spiritual messages that come to me regularly.
I have learned to reconcile my spiritual practices with my religious beliefs (Judaism). You will see this in my writings, which may have references to the Hebrew Bible, and in my musings which reflect a Jewish lens.
Many blessings -- Herb Baum
